Lumixa Phototherapy Cambridge

Cutting-edge, patented technology offering incredible skin regeneration with no pain or downtime

At Prestige Skin in Cambridge, we combine advanced Lumixa phototherapy with the CE-certified, FDA-approved Dermalux Flex MD LED technology to deliver targeted skin regeneration. This innovative pairing uses Lumixa’s fluorophore technology, which is activated by Dermalux's clinically proven Blue or Red light, to boost cellular energy, reduce oxidative stress, and tacke inflammation at its source - all with no pain and no downtime.

2. Treatment

A gel containing a fluorophore with a specific energy is applied to your skin which will feel cool. The gel is then activated with a blue LED Light using the Dermalux Flex MD Device. Once activated, the gel performs a photoconversion which produces a spectrum of Fluorescent Light Energy (FLE).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to prepare my skin before having Lumixa?

No specific skin preparation is required. Your skin will be cleansed as part of the treatment and aftercare advice will be provided to help get the best out of your course of treatments.

What will my skin look like afterwards?

Immediately after each Lumixa treatment, you can expect to see a temporary ‘bronzing’ of the skin, which some call a ‘Hollywood glow’. In some clients, temporary darkening of freckles, sunspots, and pigmentation is possible. If any of these, including Melasma, are your primary skin concerns, Lumixa may not be the treatment for you and we will discuss this prior to your treatment.

Does Lumixa hurt?

No. Lumixa is pain-free, non-invasive, and the gel doesn’t absorb into the skin. During the treatment, you may feel tingling and warmth as the gel and light work together. Don’t worry; this is entirely normal.

How long should I leave between treatments?

Lumixa is offered as a programme of 5 treatments, each spaced one week apart. Its non-invasive and non-systemic nature allows you to combine Lumixa with other treatments to further enhance and improve your results.

How many treatments is best?

All Lumixa treatments start with a course of five treatments. Some clients may need more treatments depending on the severity of their skin condition.

We recommend scheduling individual ‘top up’ treatments as needed to maintain your results as part of an ongoing maintenance plan. A booster series of five treatments can be carried out after 12-18 weeks. One maintenance treatment can then be carried out every 4 to 12 weeks as necessary.

Who is Lumixa suitable for?

Lumixa is suitable for all skin types and because it’s pain-free, it’s perfect for those more sensitive to pain and more intensive treatments.

Are there any side effects?

There are very few side effects with Lumixa. In sensitive skin, mild flushing of the skin may be observed due to the heat. Darker Fitzpatrick Skin types may experience a mild bronzing/darkening of the skin, which clears after the treatment course. We recommend not to use retinol (or vitamin A) during the treatment since it can cause skin sensitivities. Efficacy and safety of Lumixa has not been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding women. Consult a doctor if considering using Lumixa if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant during the treatment or are breastfeeding.

How long before I see results?

Results vary depending on the treatment protocol and skin condition. Some patients see an improvement in redness after just one single session. In most cases, significant improvements are not only noticeable, but often become particularly apparent during the last couple of weeks of a standard five-week treatment protocol. Furthermore, since Lumixa stimulates the skin’s biological processes, it continues to enhance the skin even in the weeks following the conclusion of the treatment protocol.

How should I look after my skin after a Lumixa treatment?

- Avoid intensive sun exposure or tanning booths during the course of treatments.

- Use daily sunscreen protection with a minimum of 30 SPF during the course of treatments.
- Use of an intensive moisturiser is advised for at least a week as skin may feel drier or tighter after treatment. We can recommend a suitable product based on your skin type during your appointment.

- Anti-ageing creams containing retinol or glycolic acid may be reintroduced progressively 48 hours after your final treatment.

- Make up can be worn immediately afterwards.

What is the science behind Lumixa? Why is it different from normal LED light therapy?

Lumixa offers treatments which utilise innovative technology called Fluorescent Light Energy (FLE). FLE works through photobiomodulation. While LED is a continuous type of light, FLE is a hyperpulsed light which facilitates superior cellular interaction with different receptors in the epidermis and dermis
